Massive Update!
Now that laQuiz has more than just English <--> Japanese quizzes weve added a language combination selection for each quiz. This means that you can also search for particular language combinations when you are looking for quizzes that are right for you.
The whole laQuiz website has also been set up to handle multiple languages on the website itself. At the moment there is only a limited selection of languages to view the laQuiz website in, and not everything on the website has been translated, but we will fill this in as we go. Want to volunteer to help us translate laQuiz to your native language? Just send us an email on the email listed on the About us page.

Print Quiz Test feature developed!
laQuiz have developed a feature to enable users to print out tests and test and answer sheets. This is intended as a handy tool for teachers to print hard copy quizzes for class.
Depending on the settings of each quiz there is no need to be a laQuiz member to print a quiz. However, the key power of laQuiz comes from the Review and Learning modules.

AJAX has been de-implemented from laQuiz.
Due to too many problems with script errors occurring when AJAX components have been used, laQuiz have decided to roll back the implementation of AJAX. We will investigate the use of AJAX again in the future, but for the time being we have removed it to ensure that laQuiz users enjoy smoother usage of laQuiz.

AJAX implemented on laQuiz.
AJAX is a technology which enables some handy website features.
Without going into too much techno babble, AJAX have been implemented on the Review page to optimise the page-load time, and minimise the network traffic on those pages. Some more subtle AJAX enhancements will be made over the next few weeks.
5-7th of October 2008/ and & added as special logic characters.
Based on user feedback, the slash (/) character and ampersand (&) character was added as special characters.
/ should used when the answer to a term includes several components, and a minimum of one component needs to be answered. & should be used when the answer to a term includes several components, all of which need to be answered. In both cases where the order of the components is not assessed.
Why was / and & selected as the special characters? Firstly, / and & does not normally occur frequently in a natural written language. Secondly, comma can not be used reliably as the character ID for a comma is different for instance in Japanese script and Latin script. Thirdly, whilst / can be expected to be used for instance if a physics or maths quiz is created, this site is specialised in language and vocabulary learning.
When laQuiz reaches a broader audience beyond languages, we have another solution in mind, where a term-type is selected, and based on this, the behaviour of the special characters might be switched on or off. This development will likely take place in conjunction enabling with the addition of audio and image based quizzes.
27th of September 2008Keyboard Enter button enabled as the default button on most pages and forms.
This means that if you are familiar with the website you will easily be able to use the Enter button on the keyboard as a helpful way to navigate the site.
This is particularly useful on the Learning and Review pages, but also applies to other functions of the website. Try it yourself the next time you take a Quiz by clicking Enter on the keyboard instead of using the mouse and you save time and can study more efficiently!
26th of September 2008Enhancements made to make the landing page more useful for logged in users.
A section was added with the 5 quizzes you have studied most recently, as a user is likely to want to study a recently studied quiz.
At the same time the section which was previously in that location showing recently studied quizzes from the entire website was removed as that is not likely to add value to an active user interested in particular quizzes.
25th of September 2008News section added to the about page to provide an update on recent news on the laQuiz website.
13th of September 2008Random formula for the quiz learning module enhanced to increase the randomness. This was done based on user feedback.
laQuiz appreciates all user feedback, and endeavour to improve the service we provide to language learners.
If you are a laQuiz user you can tell us what you think by submitting feedback here.
